Opération de déminage « Cambodge » 1993 6REG

De janvier à juillet 93, la 2e compagnie du 6e REG est engagée, en autonome, au Cambodge comme compagnie génie à Siem-reap dans le secteur nord du Cambodge. La compagnie est directement aux ordres du COMANFOR de l’APRONUC. Forte de 160 cadres et légionnaires ainsi que de 30 cambodgiens, elle est articulée en 7 sections. Elle a pour mission de désenclaver la province de Siem-Reap, où se trouvent les temples d’Angkor, de rétablir les itinéraires vers la Thaïlande et vers l’est, de dépolluer sa zone d’action et de sécuriser le processus électoral. Elle participe notamment à la sécurité pour la rencontre entre le président Mitterand et le roi Norodom Sihanouk, le 23 février 1993. Située en pleinezone Khmer et capitale traditionnelle du Cambodge, la ville de Siem-Reap sera attaquée trois fois et la compagnie sera directement impliquée dans les combats du 3 mai 1993. Son action a contribué à maintenir la présence de l’ONU dans cette zone sensible.

From January to July 1993, the 2nd company of the 6th REG was engaged, in autonomy, in Cambodia as an engineer company in Siem-reap in the northern sector of Cambodia. The company was directly under the orders of UNTAC COMANFOR. It is composed of 160 officers and legionnaires and 30 Cambodians, and is divided into 7 sections. Its mission is to open up the province of Siem Reap, where the Angkor temples are located, to re-establish the routes to Thailand and to the east, to clean up its area of action and to secure the electoral process. In particular, it participated in the security for the meeting betweenPresident Mitterand and King Norodom Sihanouk on February 23, 1993. Located in the middle of the Khmer zone and the traditional capital of Cambodia, the town of Siem-Reap was attacked three times and the company was directly involved in the fighting on May 3, 1993. Its action contributed to maintaining the UN presence in this sensitive area.
